Orchids The International School stands out because of its unique mix of traditional education and innovative, future-ready learning methods. It’s not just any school—it fits into both what we call a Mainstream School and a New-Age School. Here’s what we mean

What is a Mainstream School?

A mainstream school is what most of us think of as a “regular school.” It focuses on teaching kids the basics like math, science, and history. The goal is to give children a well-rounded education and a strong foundation for their future.

Why is Orchids a Mainstream School?

  • Inclusive Environment: Orchids welcomes every child, including those with special needs, ensuring all students feel supported and valued.
  • Variety of Activities: Kids can try out different interests like sports, music, arts, and join clubs to discover what they love.
  • Extra Support: The school provides the help and resources students need to do well in their studies and life.
  • Balanced Growth: Orchids focuses on both academics and personal growth, helping kids become confident and well-rounded individuals.
  • Safe and Caring Atmosphere: It’s a place where kids feel safe, accepted, and free to be themselves.

Now, the second one.

What is a New-Age School?

A New-Age School focuses on preparing kids for the future using modern methods. It’s all about technology, personalized learning, and teaching skills like teamwork and problem-solving.

Why is Orchids a New-Age School?

  • Tech in Learning: With smart classrooms and lessons in AI and robotics, kids learn to think ahead.
  • Skill Building: The school helps kids develop critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Personalized Lessons: Every child learns differently, so the school tailors lessons to suit their needs.
  • Global Exposure: Kids get to learn about different cultures and languages, preparing them for the world.
  • Creative Learning: Through projects and hands-on activities, kids learn by doing instead of just memorizing.
  • DIY Lab: Whether it’s pottery or 3D printing, kids can get creative and try new things.
  • Learning About Nature: The school’s gardening program teaches kids about the environment and how to care for it.
  • Interactive Classrooms: QR codes in classrooms make learning quick and fun.
  • Affordable Quality: Orchids offers great education at reasonable fees, making it a great choice for parents.

Why this School?

When choosing the right school for your child, it’s important to look beyond the basics and see what truly sets it apart. That’s exactly what we did during our visit to “Orchids”.

After speaking with the school authorities and taking a closer look at the campus, we walked away with some key insights. These are our honest observations, and they highlight the unique qualities that make this school stand out.

USP #1: Beautiful Green Campus at Orchids Kanakapura

What makes Orchids The International School, Kanakapura Branch, stand out is its beautiful green campus.

Surrounded by trees, the spacious, low-rise buildings create a peaceful and stunning view, which is rare in Bangalore. This natural, open environment offers a refreshing place for students to learn and grow.

USP #2: Multicultural Crowd

Another unique feature is that it’s a residential school, allowing us to see the kids even after school hours.

Students from different places come here, giving them a wonderful opportunity to experience new cultures and broaden their horizons.

USP #3: Learning Beyond the Classroom!

What really stood out is how much Orchids The International School values extracurricular activities.
The DIY lab is a great example. Kids can use materials like wood to create anything they imagine. There are also special areas for gardening, dance, music, and other activities where children can try new things and discover their interests.

Gardening, in particular, gives kids hands-on experience with nature. They learn how to take care of plants, understand how they grow, and appreciate the environment—all while enjoying the fun of getting their hands dirty!
One unique initiative is “No Book Wednesday,” where students take a break from textbooks and engage in interactive, hands-on learning activities.

Hobby classes on Saturdays let children focus on what they love, like dance, music, or anything else they enjoy.
The Saturday Club adds even more exciting options, like photography, videography, and theater. Imagine your child writing scripts, filming videos, and editing them—all as part of their school activities. It’s a fun and creative way to learn new skills!

USP #4: Introducing financial literacy—yes, for kids!

This was such a refreshing addition.

The school also offers financial literacy classes, where kids learn about markets, stocks, profits, and how the economy works—all explained in simple, easy-to-understand ways. It’s truly impressive to see children gaining such valuable real-world knowledge at an early age.

Parents especially appreciate this feature, as it helps kids build a strong foundation and clarity about future career paths as they grow.

USP #5: Building confidence through public speaking.

Public speaking is a skill that’s often overlooked, but not here.

From a young age, students are involved in debates, speeches, and presentations. They also get the opportunity to lead TED-style talks, where they research topics, create presentations, and present them to their parents. In return, parents share their own career stories, including the ups and downs, during the “Career Talk” sessions.

This gives kids the chance to practice speaking confidently while allowing parents to talk to them about their future. The student council also plays a big part in public speaking, as students take on leadership roles, organize events, and represent their classmates. This helps them build strong communication skills for the future.

USP #6: A weekly class for life lessons.

The school also hosts Soch sessions every week.

These are counseling classes where kids can openly talk about important topics like screen time, behavior, and understanding good touch vs. bad touch. It’s a safe space for children to learn, share, and discuss the challenges they face in today’s world.

USP #7: Preparing for competitive exams—right in school.

Orchids has a program called the Orchids Career Foundation Program (OCFP), where they hire IITians to train students for competitive exams. What’s great is that this happens during school hours, so there’s no additional pressure

We also noticed that the school’s regular teaching staff is all female, creating a nurturing and secure environment. The only male faculty members are part of the OCFP team, which many parents feel adds an extra layer of trust.

USP #8: Learning languages the smart way.

Their Trilingual approach is another standout feature.

Here, students learn three languages simultaneously, writing each sentence in multiple languages. For example, in Bangalore, they learn English, Hindi, and Kannada, while in Mumbai, it’s English, Hindi, and Marathi.

Two teachers teach the same lesson in different languages, making it easier for kids to understand and adapt. It’s a brilliant way to help kids stay connected to their roots while mastering other languages.

USP #9: Focus on progress, not perfection.

The school’s “no eraser, no scale” policy really caught our attention. It’s such a simple yet powerful idea—letting kids focus on learning and improving without worrying about making everything perfect.

8. Canteen

The school makes sure students stay full and energized with meals throughout the day, as it is a residential school.

There are two canteens where the food is made, and the menu is planned by a dietician to make sure the kids get balanced nutrition to stay healthy and active.

We even got to taste the food, and honestly, it was as tasty as eating at a Darshini in Bangalore – really delicious!

9. Staff

We visited Orchids school and were truly amazed by their amazing approach to learning. The parents we spoke with were really happy with the teachers.

These teachers show they really care about each student. They listen carefully and help kids learn in a special way.

What’s really cool is how the school supports learning both inside and outside the classroom. If a student can’t come to school for some reason, they don’t have to miss classes!

The school offers online classes that match the exact school timing. This means kids can keep learning even if they’re not physically in the school building. They even do their lab activities online because each student gets a special science kit at home.

So whether students are at school or at home, they can do experiments and practical lessons just like they would in a regular classroom.

The school staff works hard to make everything run smoothly. The security guards are wonderful too – they’re friendly and make sure everyone stays safe. Parents feel comfortable knowing their children are in such a supportive environment.
