1. Basic List of Materials

  • Drawing Paper
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Sharpener
  • Crayons or Colored Pencils
  • Stable Drawing Surface

2.Step-by-Step Guide to Draw a Cat

Step 1: Draw the head of the cat

Let’s start with the cat’s head. Draw a big circle for its head. Make it slightly flattened on the top and bottom. Don’t worry, the circle does not have to be perfect.

Step 2:  Draw a Belly and pointy ears

Now, draw a long oval shape under the head for the cat’s body. Make sure to add two little triangles on top of the head for ears. You must have seen a cat on the street and noticed their ears. Remember how pointy they were? So try to make the cat’s ears as pointed as possible.

Step 3: Draw the Cat’s Legs and Ears

Now, let’s draw the cat’s legs!

For the forelegs, draw two straight lines extending downward from the top of the cat’s body. Connect these lines with a gentle curve to form the front feet. For the hind legs, begin by drawing a circle. Erase a small portion at the bottom and extend two lines outward. Connect these lines with a curved line to create the shape of the hind feet.

Also, make the cat’s ears look better by drawing a smaller triangle to represent the inner ear. To outline the cat’s mouth, draw a slightly flattened oval shape.

Step 4: Draw Nose, Eyes, Mouth, and Tail

It’s time to give our cat some facial features. For the eyes, draw  two big circles and darken the circles. Draw a  small oval for the nose and darken the oval with your pencil.  Draw two small inverted U-shaped lines to indicate the cat’s eyebrows.

Remember, cats have really small and cute noses so make sure to not draw it too big. Make sure to add a smaller outline around the cat’s belly and legs,to make it look better.

Add a little curved line for the mouth. Your cat can be smiling or angry – it’s completely up to you! And don’t forget the tail! Cats love to wag their tails when they’re happy so draw a long curve at the end of the back leg. Keep the end of the tail a little bit thicker.

Step 5: Add Small Details

Now it’s time to add the small details that will bring your cat to life. Add 3 long triangles on the cat’s head, its body, and that cute tail. Don’t worry about the pattern too much, you can also create your own pattern if you like!

Final Touches

To make your cat look wonderful and lively, color the cat using crayons, or pencil colors. We suggest bright orange for the fur and brown for the triangle patterns. Leave the ends of the cat’s tail and underbelly white. But you can also color the cat according to your wish – black, brown, gray, etc.

Remember, the only limit is your imagination! At the end, don’t forget to sign your masterpiece!

Congratulations, you’ve drawn a cat!
