How To Draw Train in Easy Steps

Written By Pamily | Edited By Varsha & Adi | Updated on 15th May, 2024

Remember those days when we, as kids, used to travel by train to our favorite places? With the choo-choo sound of the train, we used to peek out and see so many cool things—sometimes a big, tall tree, sometimes we even spotted a cow grazing in a field, or sometimes playful puppies.

Helping your kid draw their train will be like a trip down memory lane. They will be making their very own magic ride. They can add big wheels, windows to peek out of, and even a steamy chimney on top. And guess what? They get to choose all the colors, too. Today, when they come back from their top-notch educational institution, help them draw their first train. With the help of this blog, we have made a step-by-step guide to help you. It’s like a map with steps to follow. Don’t forget to download the worksheet below this blog, and help the kids practice with it.

2.Step-by-Step Guide for Drawing a Train

Let’s learn how to draw a train together. We’ll go step by step to make it easy and fun for you.

Step 1: Drawing the Shapes

Draw a big rectangle horizontally at the bottom, then draw another rectangle vertically above the first one. This second rectangle should be in half portion of the previous rectangle. You can check the image given for reference.

Next to it, draw a square, and on top of the square, draw a small rectangle, as shown in the picture.

Step 2: Add more Shapes

Add a big circle and a small circle to the bottom rectangle. These will be the wheels of the train. Then, add a triangle in front of the bottom rectangle, like the one you see in the picture.

After that, draw a small rectangle in front of the square shape, which should be slightly taller than the square, and then draw another rectangle in front of the first one.

Step 3: Add the chimney

Draw two small circles inside the big circles to complete the wheel’s design. Then, make a tiny rectangle at the back of the bottom rectangle.

After that, draw a funnel shape on top of the rectangle and a trapezium above it to make it look like a chimney. Finally, draw a long, thin rectangle above the big rectangle. You can refer to the picture given.

Step 4: Add the details.

Draw a window inside the rectangle. For that, first draw a rectangle, then curve the line on top. Now, draw two circles inside the big circles for the wheels. Next, connect them with a thin, oblong-shaped line to make them look like wheels.

Step 5: Add the spokes

Step 6: Color it

You can use a yellow color for the train’s body. And for the wheels and chimney, you can use gray. Put red at the bottom of the train and on the above-mentioned thin rectangle presenting the roof of the train. You can use any color you want to make it look super bright.

Final Touches

While you are drawing, take your time and pay close attention to the details. Carefully erase any unwanted lines or marks to keep it looking neat. Get creative with colors – experiment using different shades of gray for the wheels to make them look three-dimensional. Use different shades of blue on the windows to show light and shadow effects. Feel free to adjust the shapes and sizes of the train components to suit your imagination.

Maybe make the body more rounded instead of rectangular. Once you have customized it to your liking, you will have a train drawing you can be proud of. Don’t forget to give yourself a pat on the back for your hard work!

Tips and Tricks to Draw

  • Trains come in different colors, so you can use any color for painting the train’s body.
  • You can also make little changes, like the shape of the window or the funnel. You can also add smoke above the chimney if you want.
  • Take your time and have fun! Drawing is about expressing yourself, so don’t worry about perfecting it.
  • If you make a mistake, don’t stress. Use your eraser and try again.
  • Practice makes perfect, so keep drawing, until you become a pro!

Awesome! Your child has made a wonderful train. It looks beautiful and is ready to ride! Make a poster out of their artwork, hang it up in their room, and let them see their beautiful drawing every day. That will be a fun reminder of their artistic skills.
