Stepwise Hut Drawing for Kids : Easy in 5 Minutes!

Written By Sudha | Edited By Varsha & Adi | Updated on 27th May, 2024

Huts are small, simple homes that people build all around the world. They’re super interesting because they come in all shapes and sizes and are made from different materials depending on where you are. In some parts of Africa, hut houses are made from mud and straw. These materials keep the inside nice and cool, even when it’s really hot outside. In other places, huts are often built from bamboo and palm leaves.

Your kids have probably already learned all about huts as part of their curriculum in some of the top schools. So, how about you teach them how to draw one today? Not only is it a fun process, but it also helps them learn shapes and colouring. Follow these simple steps to help your kiddo draw their very own hut. Plus, there’s a worksheet attached at the end for them to practice. Let’s get started!

1.  Basic List of Materials

  • Drawing Paper
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Sharpener
  • Crayons or Coloured Pencils
  • Stable Drawing Surface

2. Stepwise Hut Drawing for Kids

Step 1:Draw an Oval

Let’s start by drawing a rectangular outline for the base of the hut. Draw the bottom of the rectangle slightly wider than the top such that the sides are slanting.

Step 2: Modify the hut

Now draw the roof of the hut. The roof should be a trapezoid shape, as shown in the image, with a wider bottom and a narrower top. Make sure that the base of the hut is aligned centrally to the top of the hut.

Then draw two horizontal parallel lines at the bottom of the hut. Join these two lines at the sides with a ‘C’ curve

Step 3: Add details to the hut!

Start with the roof and erase the bottom line. Now draw continuous ‘S’ shaped lines at the bottom of the base. Then draw seven equally spaced out slanting lines connecting the top of the roof to the bottom of the roof as shown in the image.

Now draw a rectangle shape on top of the roof in the left half. Then draw another thinner and longer rectangle on top to form the hut’s chimney.

Move down to the walls of the hut and draw an inverter ‘U’ shape in the middle. Then draw another smaller ‘U’ shape inside it to form the door of the hut. Erase the lines running in between the door to make it tidy.

Step 4: Draw the windows

Add two windows on either side of the door by drawing a trapezoid shape, making the top narrower and the bottom wider. Then draw two lines, one standing and the other a sleeping line such that they form a cross inside the window.

To draw a doorknob, draw a big bold dot inside the door as shown in the image.

Now let’s make the roof look more real by drawing a few continuous ‘S’ shaped lines similar to the bottom of the roof. Make sure they’re equally spaced out.

Step 5: Finishing up!

You’re almost done! Draw a few curved lines within the door to give it a wooden finish. Then draw a few tablet-like shapes on the hut’s wall as shown in the image to add more texture to it.

Erase the unnecessary lines and make the outline bolder before you get started on colouring the hut.

Final Touches

Finally, grab the crayons, markers, or coloured pencils and start colouring. You can use natural colours like brown, red, orange and yellow, or get creative with your favourite colours.

Additionally

  • Experiment with different textures for the walls. For example, you can draw brick patterns, wood planks, or even stone walls.
  • You can even add a little smoke puffing out of the chimney.
  • Add some trees, bushes, or flowers around the hut to create a beautiful scene. You can also draw a fence or a garden.
  • Make the hut feel alive by adding some people or animals around it. Maybe there’s a family outside, a cat on the roof, or birds in the trees.
  • If you feel a little lost, don’t worry! Refer to other pictures or more such stepwise guides.

Conclusion

Congratulations on completing your masterpiece! Drawing is not only fun but also a fantastic way to explore shapes, colours, and unleash your creativity. Keep practising regularly, and you’ll notice great improvement over time!

To make the learning experience even better, a practice worksheet is attached below. Print it out and enjoy going through the steps again. You can trace the shapes, draw your own huts, and colour them in with your favourite colours.

Remember, each stroke of the pencil is a step towards mastering your skills. Keep exploring, keep creating, and most importantly, have fun!
